Grade One Magustrate’s Court in Nabweru, Wakiso District today convicted Nalwadda Amina, who pleaded guilty of aiding impersonation, as a form of examinations malpractice.

Nalwadda offered to pay off a Senior three student, Emmanuel Bageya from Janan Luwum Secondary School to write Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE/S.4) Examinations for her daughter, Hudah Namuwonge, a candidate of Kawempe Standard Secondary School.

Both students were dully registered as candidates of Kawempe Standard Secondary School.

Grade 1 Magistrate, Sanyu Mukasa sentenced Nalwadda to fine of 4.8 million shillings or a custodial sentence of 1 year.

Her co-accused, Moses Hamala, the Head Teacher of Kawempe Standard Secondary School where the malpractice occurred, was released on a none cash bail of 5 million Shillings, and was ordered to return to Court on 7th November, 2022.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Spokesperson, Jennifer Kalule said the other suspect, Kigozi Godfrey who provided the student for impersonation, is still on the run, adding that Police is tracking him down.

The malpractice occurred on Monday October 17, during the mathematics paper.

“The candidates will be tried in a juvenile Court since they are minors. In the meantime, they are being allowed to write their examinations,” Kalule said.

UNEB Spokesperson, Jennifer Kalule.

Under the UNEB Act 2021, impersonation attracts a fine of 20 million shillings or a term of imprisonment not exceeding 5 years, or both.

According to the magistrate, the reduced sentence was based on the fact that the accused is a first time offender, and did not waste Court’s time when she pleaded guilty of the offence.
