Former Sheema District Woman MP Hon Jacklet Atuhaire Rwabukurukuru has been arraigned in court today Tuesday and charged with Attempted Murder

Mrs Atuhaire, who lost the parliamentary seat in the last election, is currently a Commissioner at the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC).

She appeared before the Kitende Chief Magistrates Court along with her bodyguard, one Emmanuel Tumusiime, a UPDF officer

The criminal charges stem from an incident last week in which the bodyguard reportedly shot and severely injured one Andrew Oledo.

Oledo is a close friend to the former MP.

The incident happened on Tuesday last week at the residence of Mrs Atuhaire.

UHRC commission this afternoon issued a statement confirming the incident, and calling for a fair trial.

“Hon Rwabukukuuru and Tumusiime are innocent until proven guilty,” said the Commission Chairperson Mariam Wangadya.

“We have no doubt that the accused persons will be afforded a fair trial. The public should be informed that criminal responsibility is personal. We wish Mr Olwedo a quick recovery.”
