President Yoweri Museveni has once again weighed in on the frustrations of Ugandans regarding the state roads, especially in the Capital Kampala .

The President pointed out on Monday that while the city roads have deteriorated recently, those in other parts of the country are still in good condition.

Museveni was speaking this afternoon at the celebrations to mark the International Labor Day in Namutumba District.

“I had a good drive in the rain from Kampala, it was a very nice drive and the road is very good all the way from Kampala to Namutumba,” he said.

“Therefore when we talk of the bad roads in Kampala, you should not forget that there are good roads up-country.”

The president was speaking in light of the recent online protest under the #UgandaRoadsExhbition, in which Ugandans shared pictures, videos and experiences with the badly damaged roads.

In the week of the protest mid last month, President Museveni came out and directed the Ministry of Finance to release Shs 6 billion to KCCA for road repairs.

In his speech today, the President reiterated the Government’s commitment to improve the state of roads around the country.

The government starting with the new Financial year, Museveni confirmed, will increase the funding going to district local governments, to a tune of Shs 1 billion each.

“We are  planning to take care of both the murram and tarmac roads to make sure they are always in good condition,” he said.

The President also dismissed the assertion that murram roads are not a good solution for roads.

It is not true that murram roads cannot do well. Recently, I traveled on a road in Obongi. It was a very good marram road to the district headquarters and it was raining,” he said.

The Labor day celebrations were held in a heavy downpour under the theme; “promoting a positive work culture and ethics: a prerequisite for increased investment employment opportunities and household incomes.
