President Yoweri Museveni has summoned members of Parliament of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for a meeting on Thursday this week.
Part of the meeting agenda is to discuss the recently passed Anti-Homosexuality Bill, according a State House Announcement on Tuesday.
“President (Museveni), who is also the chairman of the ruling (NRM) will on Thursday this week, convene the Party’s Parliamentary Caucus to discuss among other things; the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023,” State House announced.
President Museveni over the past month has been under growing pressure from religious, cultural and other groups of Ugandans to assent to the bill.
The President on the other hand has received threats from western countries such as the United States, Canada and some EU members as well as key international organizations not to sign the bill.
The Bill sponsored by Opposition MP Asuman Basalirwa was passed by parliament in March last year with overwhelming support.
It remains to be seen whether the president, will propose any amendments to the bill, which he has publicly expressed support for on a number of occasions.
