Politician, Lawyer, businessman and human rights activist Hon. Fred Mukasa Mbidde officially wedded his longtime girlfriend   Phiona Nayebale, at Uganda Martyrs Basilica, Munyonyo  yesterday , April 28 2023

The wedding follows an intimate introduction and giveaway ceremony that was held a few days ago where Phiona was officially handed over to Mukasa’s family in what is commonly known as ‘Okuhigira’ in Banyakole.

Mbidde was first introduced to the family of Nayebale in a traditional ceremony called, Gusaba ceremony, which took place in December, 2019 before the COVID-19 lockdown.

He was asked to bring 20 cows and sh10m as the bride price.

The much-hyped multimillion wedding reception took place at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa, attended by very many distinguished guests including politicians, prominent businessmen, and celebrities among others. Among the distinguished guests was Haruna Kasolo, the finance state minister who was Mbidde’s best man, Hon Nobert Mao, the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa among others.

The guests were entertained by several musicians including Bebe Cool, Chameleon, and Nina Rose.

In his speech, Hon Mbidde promised to love and protect his now official wife Phiona for the rest of the days.

While speaking at the introduction ceremony that took place a few days back, Hon Mao had described Hon Mbidde as a trustworthy friend with thick skin yet soft on the inside.

“Inside that mask you see is a soft, emotional and very loving gentleman. It is only if you get close to him that will you be able to experience that inner person of Hon Mbidde,” Mao said.

He further congratulated the couple for making a firm decision to legalize their union.

“The most important thing in life is to decide. Life is easy when you decide.  Failing to make a decision has made a lot of people remain in doubt and live unfruitful lives. I want to thank Hon Mbidde and Fiona for making a decision to be together and we are here to celebrate that decision,”

. It should be remembered that Mbidde’s first wife, Bukomansimbi Woman MP Susan Namaganda, passed on in a road accident on the Kampala-Masaka highway in 201
