Museveni Signs Infamous Computer Misuse Bill Into Law
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has signed the infamous Computer Misuse (Amendment) Bill 2022 into Law.
The infamous Bill was tabled before Parliament the by Kampala Central Lawmaker, Muhammad Nsereko earlier this year.
The Bill was debated and passed by the House amid massive criticism from members of the public and the opposition politicians.
The opposition worry that the law is intended to silence dissent.
However, Nsereko defended it saying it will regulate social media and other media platforms especially when it comes to propagating fake news.
According to the law, recording of a person’s voice or video without permission, or unauthorized access to their personal information, and seeks to render a person convicted under the proposed law ineligible for public or elective office for a decade and imposes a fine of Shs15 million or imprisonment not exceeding 10 years, or both.
The law also prohibits anyone from recording a video or an audio of a minor without consent from their parents or guardians.
Meanwhile, Museveni assented to three other Bills which include; The Physical Planners’ Registration Act, 2022, the Kampala Capital City (Amendment) Act, 2022 and the Mining and Minerals Act, 2022
