Team Uganda has been crowned the champions of the 8th Africa Aquatics Zone 3 swimming competitions held at the Gahanga Swimming Pool in Kigali, Rwanda.

Comprising of 49 members including 9 Masters Category competitors, team Uganda was the overall winner of the competitions which ran from November 23rd to 25th, followed by Tanzania and Kenya respectively.

The win comes after a devastating defeat in the previous edition held in Tanzania where Team Uganda came third, with the hosts bagging the trophy.

The 8th edition of the Africa Aquatics Zone 3 swimming competitions drew in 9 other countries including the hosts Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Ethiopia, Burundi, South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea and Djibouti.

Organized by the Africa swimming governing body, Africa Aquatics – formerly Confédération Africaine de Natation (C.A.N.A), the competition serves as a qualifying event for the Commonwealth Games.

Ben Kaganda captained the team with members including; Tendo Kaumi, Pendo Kaumi, Swagiah Mubiru, Tara Kisawuzi, Trevor Kimuli, Larry Feni, Ian Aziku, Peyton Mary Suubi, Zara Marie Mbanga, Esther Atoo, Paloma Kirabo among others.

The Coaches for Uganda at these games are Olivier Nalwadda (Shan) and Makerere University Head Coach Thomas Tamale. Participants competed in the butterfly, free style, backstroke and breast stroke.

Team Uganda came first followed by Tanzania and Kenya respectively.
