More than 440 women and youth in the districts of Amuria, Katakwi, Serere and Dokolo are set to benefit from an over SHS560m project implemented by ChildFund Uganda Country Program.
The Organization announced today that it had received over USD 150,000 from The Coca-cola Foundation to implement a 15 months project aimed at empowering vulnerable women and the youth with sustainable skills.
According to statistics, most families in those districts in those districts have limited resources and opportunities with an average monthly income below the national average of UGX 443000 and are unab.le to provide certain basic needs like food, proper shelter and education to their children.
It is upon those factors that ChildFund Uganda in close collaboration with local implementing partners, Lango Child and Development Federation and Partners for Children Worldwide, both based in North- Eastern uganda decided to implement the Women and Youth Economic Empowerment (WYEE) project targeting the youth and young adults especially teenage mother’s between 13 to 19 years.
While speaking at the launch of the program at the ChildFund Uganda Country Offices in Kampala, the Organization’s Country Director Moses Otai said the project will address the pertinent needs of vulnerable groups of Uganda by giving them the knowledge and resources they need to sustainably earn a decent living and contribute to the development of Uganda.
“The primary goal of this project is to improve the wellbeing of these communities’ women and youth through sustainable livelihood opportunities for wealth creation. We want to thank the funders, the coca-cola foundation for enabling us to improve the lives of these young people and we look forward to working with more corporate sectors to reach more communities and families in a sustainable way,” Otai said.
According to Otai, the project is a tailor-made intervation premised on skills development, environmental sustainability best practices and economic diversification for the participants.
The Coca-cola Foundation in a statement said they were proud to support initiatives that build community resilience especially with focus on women and youth as they are critical to the financial future of Uganda and the great East African Region.
