Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) will, tomorrow, Friday, 24th February 2023, carry out a peaceful demonstration against homosexuality at all its mosques nationwide.

In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by the Secretary for Religious Affairs, UMSC,   Sheikh Imran Abdunoor Ssali, Muslim leaders and followers across the country will participate in the peaceful protest in several ways.

“This is to inform you all that the national headquarters has gazetted 24th- 02- 2033 for peaceful protests against homosexuality practice in Uganda,” the statement reads in part.

In the same statement, all district Kadhis are instructed to organise several activities to show contempt against homosexual practice. Some of the activities announced include; peaceful walks through towns with placards between 10 am to 12 pm in partnership with Uganda Police. in addition, every district kadhi must release a press statement against homosexuality, and all khutubas radios and televisions teachings must address the same as well as the schools.

Homosexuality remains a hot topic in Uganda and globally. While some countries, especially developed countries, recognise homosexuality as a form of sexuality that must be respected as a human right, most African and Muslim countries are still firmly against it as it contradicts cultural and religious beliefs. In Uganda, the vice is illegal.
