A 20-year-old youth, Isaac Ssenabulya, has been convicted of murdering a social worker, Maria Nagirinya, and her driver Ronald Kitayimbwa, has been sentenced to 40 years imprisonment.

The ruling was handed over by High court Criminal Division, Judge Isaac Muwata on Wednesday, 22nd February 2023. Kitayimbwa will now serve 37 years, having spent nearly 3 years on remand.

While sentencing him, the judge ruled that the convict committed a double murder, double aggravated robbery and double kidnap, which all carry a maximum penalty of death upon conviction.

The Judge added that the convict Isaac Ssenabulya is a young man who is energetic enough to work but instead decided to engage in unlawful acts.

He has, however, jailed him for 40 years, saying he is a first offender with no previous criminal records and remorseful by pleading guilty to the offence.

On Monday, Ssenabulya pleaded guilty, asked Court for leniency and apologised to both Nagirinya and Kitayimbwa’s families.
