The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has alerted the people of Kampala, Mukono, and parts of Wakiso to store enough water for use tomorrow, Tuesday as Katosi Water Treatment Plant will be shutdown to fix technical faults.
The water supply will be cut off from 8am to 4pm.
“The contractor for the Katosi-Kampala transmission mains has detected a technical fault along the plant raw water intake transmission pipeline. Accordingly, water supply from Katosi Water Treatment Plant will be closed off tomorrow Tuesday 17th May, 2022 from 8am to 4pm to allow for emergency works,” NWSC said in a statement on Monday.
NWSC announced that areas that will be affected by the emergency works include; Mukono, Seeta, Sonde, parts of Namugongo, Kyaliwajjala, Kira, Nsasa, Bulindo and the surrounding areas.
Others include; Mutungo, Bukoto, Naguru, Ntinda and the surrounding areas, Kasangati, Gayaza, Kanyanya, Komamboga, parts of Matugga, Kabaga, Kitezi, Kayanga, Kitagobwa, Jjokolera, Namulumba, Mawule, kata, Katadde, Kiyimbambwa, Mayirikiti, Kiti and the surrounding areas.
“Customers are therefore advised to store water and use it sparingly as it takes time for the system to stabilize after a total plant shutdown,” statement from NWSC indicated.
The Katosi Water Treatment Plant, with 240million liters per day water production capacity, was constructed to add more water to the Kampala Metropolitan Service Area.
The Plant will serve over 7.5million people in Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso districts up to 2040
The plant has a design capacity of 160,000m³ per day (80,000m3 per day + 80,000m3 per day), with provision for future expansion to 240,000m³ per day.
The Katosi-Kampala Transmission Mains on the other hand was designed to evacuate and convey all 160,000m3 per day produced in Katosi into the Kampala Water supply network.
