Speaker of Parliament Hon Anita Annet Among has sent out condolences to the family of the late Isma Olaxes Tusubira alias Jajja Ichuli, who gunned down near his home in Kyanja on Saturday, May 6th.

Speaker Among described the murder of the 44 year old blogger as “cowardly” and “barbaric.”

She also condemned the growing level of intolerance of divergent views in Uganda, which she blamed for the latest spate of gun violence.

“Hon members, we have heard of the unfortunate incidents in the country where gunmen have murdered people in cold blood, the latest being the blogger Ibrahim Jajja Ichuli,” she said.

“As leader of the House, I strongly condemn this kind of barbaric killing of people. This is cowardice activity (sic) and it is not a good one.”

Speaker Among made the remarks while opening a special sitting to pay tribute to Late Hon. Okello Charles Patrick Engola Macodwogo, the former Minister of State for Labour.

Engola was gunned down by his own bodyguard on Tuesday, May 2nd, in the same Kyanja township just a few hundred meters from where Jajja Ichuli was killed four days later.

In her message, the speaker called upon Ugandans to be more tolerant to people who share different views, and to understand that murdering opponents is not problem solving.

“We want to ask all Ugandans not to take the law into their own hands. We are all human beings. Why would you kill a person? We may differ  in terms of religion, politics and whichever but no one has the right to take another person’s life under any circumstance.”

President Yoweri Museveni yesterday, Monday May 8th, 2023 spoke out about the murder of Jajja Ichuli, terming his killers as “pigs.”

The President also condemned the vice of resorting to violence to settle political disputes and vowed to ensure that the assailants are brought to book.
