Officers manning the stores of the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) at Namanve industrial area have finally received 500 iron sheets purchased by Speaker of Parliament Anita Among to replace those she had received that were meant for Karamoja.
Earlier in the day, the OPM personnel had refused to receive the iron sheets, insisting that they must first be cleared by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the CIID, as they are subject to an ongoing investigation into the diverted relief items for Karamoja.
The iron sheets were delivered in a big truck.
Eventually the officials from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the CIID arrived at Namanve, inspected the iron sheets before allowing them in the stores.
Senior Assistant Secretary Finance and Administration at OPM, David Kayongo Mugisha, said they have finally accepted iron sheets from Speaker Anita Among after going through the ‘right procedure’.
This comes after President Museveni in a letter dated April 3 directed those who received the iron sheets to reimburse the cost or return them, threatening police action and political consequences for those involved.
In the midst of this controversy, a new row has emerged between the Speaker of Parliament and the Office of the Prime Minister.
