President Museveni has publicly apologised to Kenya after former commander of the UPDF Land Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba posted on his official Twitter Account that his army could capture Nairobi in two weeks.
“It wouldn’t take us, my army and me, 2 weeks to capture Nairobi,” Gen Muhoozi tweeted.
This, however, is not the only “mysterious” tweet that Gen Muhoozi made.
In series of tweets, Gen. Muhoozi went on to say that after “our Army” has captured, “we are going to be one county.”
“I’m happy that members of our district in Kenya, have responded enthusiastically to my tweet. It’s still 2 weeks to Nairobi! After our army captures Nairobi, where should I live? Westlands? Riverside? My Kenyan brothers, we are going to be one country. Any war against us will end quickly! Union is a MUST! No honourable men can allow these artificial, colonial borders anymore. If we our generation has men then these borders must fall! After we create our East African Federation. President Museveni will be President, Afande Ruto will be Vice President, My brother Uhuru will be Foreign Affairs Minister. I just want to be CDF of the East African forces,” said Muhoozi on his official Twitter Account.
The mysterious tweets rattled Kenyan government which in turn summoned Uganda Ambassador to Nairobi, Hassan Galiwango for explanation.
In the wake of Ambassador Galiwango being summoned by the Nairobi Administration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala issued a statement, saying it does not conduct Foreign Policy on social media.
“The Ministry wishes to emphasize that the Government and the people of the Republic of Uganda treasure the existing strong bilateral relations between the people and the Government of the Republic of Kenya based on our shared history, common values, mutual respect, trust and the desire to build a unified East African Community. To this end, the Government of the Republic of Uganda wishes to reiterate its commitment to good neighbourliness, peaceful co-existence and cooperation,” reads the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to clarify that the Government of the Republic of Uganda does not conduct its Foreign Policy and other official business through social media nor does it depend on social media sources in dealing with other sovereign Governments,” it added.
The Ministry reiterated Government of Uganda’s cordial relationship with Kenya and, assured the people and the Government of Kenya of Kampala’s harmonious relationship with Nairobi.
The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs seemed not convincing to the Nairobi Administration.
President Museveni has now public apologized to Kenya.
“I ask our Kenyan brothers and sisters to forgive us for tweets sent by General Muhoozi, former Commander of Land Forces here, regarding the election matters in that great country,” said Museveni on Wednesday afternoon.
“It is not correct for Public officers, be they civilian or military, to comment or interfere in any way, in the internal affairs of brother countries,” he added.
This is the first time Museveni is making a public apology for the actions of his family member in a very long time.
