Muljibhai Madhvani Foundation has today announced a scholarship fund of UGX 750 million that will be used to support underprivileged yet brilliant university students in Uganda in the 2022 intake.
One of the Foundation’s primary objectives since 2003 has been to maintain and promote scientific and technical education among the people of Uganda.
The covid-19 pandemic highlighted and worsened existing inequalities for students. Given this disruption, the Foundation has stepped in and increased the fund amount by UGX 50 million from UGX 700 million in the previous years to ensure continuity in education for the students who while being gifted technically, have been affected by the covid-19 pandemic shocks. “Our Scholarship program will offer students a sense of hope, belonging and anticipation to help them flourish through the academic year,” Hon. Gerald Sendawula, the Chairman of the Muljibhai Madhvani Foundation Board said.
Hon. Sendawula continued to stress what this means in the current environment, “This is an opportunity to change the learning landscape for needy students because the future for these students has been hampered by the ongoing economic shocks.”
The Foundation has supported over 2,300 students to the tune of UGX 7.9 billion since inception.
“It should be noted that only undergraduate and postgraduate students are eligible for the scholarship. Undergraduate students should have completed their first year of studies at any Ugandan University and postgraduate applicants should have been either admitted and/or registered for graduate programs.” S K Iyengar, Madhvani Foundation Secretary added.
The Madhvani Foundation sponsors students taking science and technical disciplines that include: Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Actuarial Science, Architecture, Veterinary Medicine, Commerce, Hotel Management, Pharmacy, Nursing, Engineering, Food Science & Technology, Information Technology, Environmental Studies, and Human Medicine
