Police have opened up on the assassination of Minister of State for Labor Hon Charlese Engola, calling it a tragic and unfortunate incident
Police spokesman Fred Enanga, while confirming the assassination, said the Minister was gunned down by one of his bodyguards, at close range.
Enanga says the Minister was shot dead around 8:00 am while entering his vehicle to go to work.
“The shooting was done by one of his bodyguards at his residence in Kyanja, who allegedly fired several rounds at close range,” he said
The UPDF officer, still unnamed, fled the scene to a nearby trading center in Kyanja ring road where he entered a salon and shot himself.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the guard was screaming his frustration about non-payment of his salary.
The residents also said the officer was keen on sparing the lives of other people, telling them that he only had problems with the Government
But in a press brief this morning, Enanga said police didn’t wish to rush into conclusions about the motive of the killer.
“Investigations are still in the early stages of review; we have dispatched a team of crime scene experts who are using the most advanced forensic technology to get what exactly was the cause of this tragic murder,” he said
