The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi has rallied his people in the kingdom to remain united as a way of ensuring continuity of the Kingdom.

The Monarch emphasized on Thursday that only through unity will Buganda Kingdom be successful.

“I want to emphasize to you that unity is the foundation for our success,” he said.

“I therefore urge you to carry this forward.”

The Kabaka made the call on Thursday during the celebrations to mark his 68th birthday which was held at his Mengo Palace.

At the sumptuous event, he was joined by kingdom officials, representatives from the central government, captains of top businesses and other local and foreign agencies.

In his remarks, the king extended thanks to the people of Buganda and Uganda for loving him, listening to his advice and praying for him.

“We thank you for your love, the unity and for listening to our advice and staying the course without the fear of compromise,” he said.

On his part, the Kingdom Prime Minister (Katikkiro) Charles Peter Mayiga hailed the king for guiding the current generation well in the areas of health, culture and education.

“When we are celebrating the King’s birthday, we look at the many things that have been achieved; the youths have been brought to the fore in almost every aspect in the kingdom; which we last saw during the reign of Mwanga II,” Mayiga said.

“We have also seen rapid growth in science and technology. Our king now doesn’t need a lot of time to know what is happening in any of his counties.

“We also know that he has emphasized issues of health, and following your advice, we have been telling our people to live better lifestyles, to avoid avoidable diseases, be hygienic and seek get medical checkups.

This weekend as has been the norm for the past 10 years, there will be the annual Kabaka birthday run in Lubiri, Mengo, whose proceeds will go to support the fight against HIV/AIDS.
