Iron Sheets Saga: MPs Uncover New “Unknown” OPM Store in Namanve

Members of Parliament have today learnt of the existence of a new store rented by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) to house relief items.

MPs on the Presidential Committee of Parliament who are investigating misuse of the iron sheets meant for Karamoja, leant that the OPM has been renting this unknown store for months.

The store is located just a shot minutes’ drive from the main one in Namanve, Mukono district.

The MPs, while visiting the main OPM store as part of their investigation said they were shocked to hear of a new store which had not been mentioned before.

“All this while we have only known of one OPM store and now we are being told that there is another sub-store,” said Hon Derrick Nyeko, one of the MPs.

The committee members then demanded to be taken to the new store, which they found housing over 80,000 iron sheets.

An OPM official manning the store who introduced himself as Stephen, said the new store was rented last year, when the main one run out of space.

“We started renting this store in June last year, and so far, we have 85,000 iron sheets, which are all pre-painted and meant for Karamoja,” he said.

When pressed to elaborate on the acquisition of the store, Stephen and his team promised to furnish the committee with the MOU Documents later on.

The Presidential Affairs Committed chaired by Hon Jessica Ababiku is finalizing is investigation into the iron sheets, which has so far seen the arrest and arraignment in court of Ministers Amos Lugoloobi and Mary Gorreti Kitutu.
