Sulayiman Jakana Nadduli, the son of former Minister Abdul Naduuli is dead.

Jakana has been found dead at his home in Wobulenzi, Luwero District.

The news of Jakana’s death was first announced by the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) Party Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya.

“We’ve woken up to the terrible news of the untimely passing of our brother Jakaana Nadduli. The family says he was found dead at his home, a few days after he was released from prison. I spoke to him Saturday and he sounded fine. Terrible news,” Rubongoya wrote on Twitter.

Jakana, a vocal political activist, was in September released by Luwero Chief Magistrate’s court after spending two weeks in jail on charges of cyber-related crimes, inciting violence, sowing sectarianism, and hate.

He had been arrested for recording and uploading a video on YouTube promoting sectarianism against Banyankole and Banyarwanda contrary to section 41(1) of the penal code act.

Jakana pleaded not guilty to the offense.

He had been barred from making statements on any media platforms given the seriousness of the offences against him.

According to the charge sheet, on April 5, 2022 while in Luwero, Jakana, 37 had recorded and uploaded a video on youtube, which promotes sectarianism against Banyankole and Banyarwanda.

The cause of his death is yet to be established.

Jakana had pleaded not guilty to the offense.
